Auditioning for the movie

“Michael’s Resignation” is no ordinary film, and “Multivalence” is no ordinary series. It has been designed from the bottom up as a platform to showcase new talent and give people a way to get a leg up in a world with some very intimidating entry barriers. Everyone wants to make it. When you attend an audition the reviewers tend to already have an idea of what they want and it’s usually a case of hit-and-miss until the person they had imagined in their head walks in. We’re no different really, but the casting process is uniquely democratic as it will be put out to the popular vote for the opinion of everyone working on the movie.  Alex and the writing/direction team have final say, but the shortlist is made up from candidates that are reviewed and voted for by everyone involved.

The key thing to know is that we are only interested in undiscovered talent. Having an agent and being known is great, but we want to help people who deserve that step up and are right for the part. People who will just blow away viewers and shock them into wondering why nobody had picked them up before. Your name and experience are irrelevant – if you’ve got the talent and the presence (even if you haven’t acted before), you’ll get the part.

  • First rule – please read the script before you get in touch and have a role in mind for yourself.
  • The film is set in Britain, so applicants need to be British.
  • Bear in mind the ages of the characters – most are late 20s and mid-30s.
  • Anyone can apply to audition regardless of experience or qualifications (inc. Equity membership).
  • Anyone can submit someone they know or like to audition.
  • It probably won’t be paid. We know that sucks. We can’t afford massive stars but we can cover expenses.
  • You’ll get good detailed feedback and encouragement regardless of whether you’re successful.
  • Anyone is welcome to join us on set to see how the whole process works and learn.

Extras are more than welcome – it’s amazing the amount of people who want to be shot and killed on-screen for all their friends and family to see.

These are the main characters up for grabs if you fancy applying:

  • Michael Jones (lead – dark hair, dark features, brooding, early 30s)
  • Judith Layton (Michael’s bitch  fiancée, dark brown hair, early 30s)
  • Sarah Whitecliffe (Michael’s office love interest, blonde, late 20s)
  • Richard Chambers (Michael’s nasty boss, mid-30s)

There are also smaller parts you can apply for too, in order of appearance with the most featured in bold:

  • Ben (Michael’s office colleague)
  • Charlie (Michael’s ex-army colleague)
  • Street Beggar (on Michael’s journey to Whitechapel)
  • Whitechapel Barman (serves Michael in the pub)
  • Pub Brutes x6 (beat Michael up badly in the pub)
  • Cabbie (drives Michael back from Whitechapel)
  • Man in the street (bumps into Michael in the morning)
  • Indian Shop Assistant (sells Michael the video camera)
  • Office security guard (killed by Michael)
  • Head of Department (Michael’s fat cat office boss)
  • Office colleagues x25
  • Lieutenant and Cops 1+2, Snipers 1+2
  • SO19 armed response squad x15

The first thing you need to do is read the script, then have a character in mind for yourself. Then get a copy of your CV and online portfolio ready. If you haven’t got any experience, say so. It won’t stop you from auditioning or getting a part. Then take a deep breath and email it to one of these production people:
