RECESSION RAMPAGE MOVIE OVERWHELMED BY PUBLIC SUPPORT
Publicly-funded film “Michael’s Resignation” smashes through funding target
LONDON – An independent British film dramatising the near-collapse of HBOS in September 2008 has been inundated with cash donations and offers of help after controversially inviting the general public to be a part of the investment and production process.
Media support has exceeded all expectations. Within 36 hours of press exposure, over £32,000 had been invested by the public online via the film’s website http://www.MichaelsResignation.co.uk – nearly twice the original target of £18.500. Within a week the total had grown to over £43,000. Contributions have averaged £30, with some donating £500 – £1,000 each. Investment is still open and is about to break through a landmark final total of £50,000.
So far over 300 unsigned bands, 600 unknown actors and 1,100 production personnel have applied to be involved in the movie, in which a City worker spirals out of control and guns down his office colleagues.
The film has been deliberately designed as a platform to help and encourage under-exposed British creative talent.
Auditions and filming for “Michael’s Resignation” will be taking place in south London throughout June and July, with the first screening and public release of the film scheduled for September 2009. Support for the film has already attracted the interest of 3 international distributors.
Michael’s Resignation will be shot on the highly sought-after RED® camera system – advanced Hollywood-quality equipment also used to produce well known cinema and television such as “24” and “Angels & Demons”. The film will be rehearsed, acted, shot and edited in “real-time” on the actual timeline of the original story.
For the first time in independent film, the City of London Police Tactical Firearms Unit will be staging a real, live armed assault on the set of Michael’s Resignation in an “active shooter” training exercise to kill the lead character Michael Jones in his final stand. Aerial footage of the scene will be taken on unmanned UAV drone planes. The cost of reproducing a similar stunt commercially is estimated to be hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Producer Alex Cameron said “Michael’s Resignation is shaping up to be a frenzied adrenaline ride of brutal carnage and dramatic ultra-violence, mixed with razor-sharp dialogue and strong, intelligent characterisation. Being entirely funded by ordinary people means we are free from any of the usual political constraints other productions might struggle with, so we are truly free to make the movie we want to, for all of us – a wild, violent and insanely dangerous act of cinematic revenge, in response to all the liberties the establishment has taken in the last few years to make our lives that little bit worse.”
As a result of such strong interest in the film and the unique approach to producing it, Cameron has received multiple offers of private finance from investors for the next 6 movies in his “Multivalence” series.
