You took a big leap of faith to come on board and write “Michael’s Resignation”. Because of that, all of this has developed into a series of 7 films now tentatively titled “Multivalence” for a DVD box set that we will all make together. It will be a platform for everyone involved to make their way into a very unforgiving world – writers, actors, production staff, musicians and more.
Everything about this whole project has been unique. When Joby visited the head of the Italia Conti drama school recently to look for talent and ask to use their facilities for auditioning, they were taken aback as no-one had ever done that before. Hasani has taken it further.
Now, I’m going to ask you to step out again with us.
But this time it’s much bigger. I’m not only going to ask you to write, I’m going to ask you to change everything and do something that is going to take people’s breath away. It’s not going to be easy but it will work. I’m going to ask you to give everything you are and everything you have, until you are exhausted, to something bigger than all of us.
We’re in the middle of worldwide recession – people are losing their jobs, their savings and their pensions. We’re asking rich men for money in order to make them richer, and its wrong. We need to find a way for ordinary people to make money, and find hope by being part of something greater than themselves. And to do that, we’re going to make “Michael’s Resignation” something anyone at can invest in, even if its $5 or £10. We’re going to raise the £50,000 we need by asking people not to make donations, but to invest in our film.
As I write this, the graphics and branding are on their way. We’ll have the website up where people can sign up with credit cards etc, as well as pages on MySpace, Facebook and more. We will be setting up a Public Limited Company with 50,000 shares, so if you contribute £100 you get 100 ordinary shares (inc. legal paperwork) in the film/company over which you can claim 40% tax relief, and if it makes £100,000 back in distribution (2:1 return), you get a cheque back for in the mail for £200. You will be able to give as much or as little as you want. In a time when everyone is losing money, we’re going to help people make it back, against the tide, as well as promoting a whole new generation of talent who are being denied the opportunity trying to do it on their own.
We will need all your help, and the help of everyone you know to make it work. We have massive press/PR databases but if we can get 5M people to look at it, we can get 5000 people to give £10. We need people sending out emails, calling up tv/radio stations for publicity, adding friends on MySpace and rounding up people they know to get involved and sign up for even £3.00 if that’s all they want to give.
If you want us to change the world, let me know. I’ll be making a list of people to structure up and delegate the work to, but I assure you of one thing – it will exhaust you, but it will be one of the most amazing things this world has seen for a while.
